Melvina Murray

Dr. Melvina A. Murray is an award-winning second-grade educator, researcher, and advocate for culturally responsive education. Originally from the island of Guam, her experiences growing up shaped her deep commitment to ensuring every student feels welcomed, valued, and represented in the classroom. Prior to becoming an educator, Dr. Murray served in the US Army as a distinguished service member, where she traveled and experienced many cultures, gaining perspectives she now brings into her teaching.
She earned her PhD in curriculum and instruction, where her research focused on multicultural education, teacher retention, and leadership. Dr. Murray has been recognized as Teacher of the Year for both her school and district, was named the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Teacher of the Year, and is a North Dakota finalist for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). Through her teaching, writing, and research, she strives to create learning environments that celebrate culture, language, and the unique identities every student brings to the classroom.
